Stuff takes a while to render

So this is a preview clip I made a few days ago of what I'm working on for our Inspiration>>product timeline. My idea is this, there are two sides to that equation. The head and the hand. The head thinks and the hand makes. So Inspiration, Idea, Concept, is to the mind as Trial, Refine, Product is to the hand. So what's interesting to note? In programming math speak, these are both loops. In fact they are the same loop, one is just machine language while the other is code. These two loops are genetic algorithms, and so they are recursive to each other as well. Where one ends the other starts. It's like a fractal.

A tale of two eggs.

An egg can be many things.
A lizard, a fish, a thing with wings.
A winged thing, that springs and sings
Or maybe something with rings that stings?

My Egg will fly one day I bet.
On solar breeze or hot air jet.
I wonder if it will fly yet?
A test to set a bet I fret.

I let my egg fly in the air
Where it lands I did not care.
Near my friend chris it crashed not fair.
And on my car his egg did wear.

Seeing Sideways

This semester I'll be engaging in a series of activities known as seeing sideways. I feel that's an appropriate way to explain this class so far. Example! We started class off by sitting in a circle and said something unique about our childhoods. As many already know I was born with a full beard. We talked a bit about expectations and mostly about what art is. Neither discussion had a solid finish. At the end of class we were each given an egg. I shall refrain from divulging details about what happened afterwards.

I expect this class to be one in a class of outside the box style thought discussion and activities.

February 14th, 2059
Antonio "Cupid" Gambino, died at age 36, survived by his wife Mary Gambino. Antonio, born in chicago's own five points, died in a fatal car accident today. Authorities were quick to confirm antonio's suspected involvement in today's bloody massacre in five points. Antonio, it is believed, was a member of notorious gangster, Al Capone's gang. Capone, great grandson of the legendary capone of the 1920's, was out of the state at the time of the shooting but offers these words: "Antonio was a good friend, and like a brother. It is a shame to see him go, if there was anything I could do to bring him back I would. I will miss you my friend." Services will be held at st. Matthews catholic church this Friday.

St. Valentines Day

On a cold and dark chicago street, a black car races through the rain. As the car approaches a stop light, it does not slow down. The car slides through the vacant midnight intersection, tires skidding on the wet pavement. "Pull it together!" the driver says as he struggles to regain control. The car fishtails through the turn and speeds off again down the street. An image flickers to life onto the windshield of the car of a phone book. "Alphonso gabriel" commands the driver, and as he says this the phone book flips open to a page with the name Alphonso Gabriel at the top, and a sillhouete image of the man. "Phone number for Alphonso Ga-" the female computer is cut off by the drivers harsh words "Shut up and dial".

The image of the phonebook closes and fades out leaving only a green glowing image of a phone. "Padre nostro che sei nei cieli", prayed the driver as the phone rings quietly. "sia santificato il tuo nome, venga il tuo regno, sia fatta la tua volontà" a verse for every ring. The driver, who so far has been driving with only one hand, looks down at his other hand. It is clutching his abdoman. He moves it slowly "Come in cielo" to see the red pouring out "Cosi in terra" and soaking into his clothes, he grips it again "Dammit". Suddenly the animation of the phone once again comes to life displaying this time a wave form in a neat green box on the screen, as the ringing stops, two clicks, then "What is it?" "Boss it's antoni- it's" as the driver tries to say these words he feels the loss of blood catching up with him, making him slow and dizzy "it's cupid" "cupid? why are you calling me"

"we had a problem, we didn't..."
"is anyone still alive besides you?"
"no"
"tell me what happened"
"they set us up"
"who did?"
"those goons you hired, the 'arch angels'"
"..."

Cupid's vision becomes hazy and everything doubles up on him as the lack of blood starts seriously affecting his senses. He looks down at his abdoman again "oh fuck". His head falls backwards and his eyes close as the car spins out of control.

"Dacci oggi il nostro pane quotidiano
Rimetti a noi i nostri debiti
Come noi li rimettiamo ai nostri debitori.
E non ci indurre in tentazione"

He says quietly to the dark. "Emergency systems activated, driver impared, destination hospital" "antonio. Antonio wake up dammit!" Cupid opens his eyes and stares at the screen, the phone is still open.

"antonio I am sorry"
"Ma liberaci dal male. "
"Amen."

A click is heard as the phone goes dead. A loud explosion is heard as the car explodes.

Think outside of the box

Saw another neat type thing. This one is a program that shows you what a bunch of fonts averaged together would look like. As I look at each letter my eye tries to focus on certain serifs or shapes and comes up with a perfect idea of a blurry font.

Melting Men

brazilian artist nele azevedo did something pretty spectacular last month.

He set up lots of tiny ice sculptures made to look like tiny men. As the day went on the tiny men started melting. it's a fascinating way to bring attention the idea of the ice caps melting and raising the water level.

Rage, or Jude law's Drag movie

Saw this trailer for a movie called Rage, it's a whole new narrative style for movies. Set up with the backdrop of a fashion show, the movie is from the perspective of a young boy giving interviews backstage for school.

Often when trying to be creative one must try out new ideas and look at things from many perspectives, as our prof. has been saying all along. "Try making Lots of different changes" They don't always work best but you may stumble across something that says yes. That will do.

Kinetic Type

Saw this a while ago and thought it'd be fun to bring up. Typography is a strange art, and to see something different out of it is always exciting. Type, still motionless. Break through those bounds and now we have kinetic type.

Pepsi

I'm still having problems with Pepsi's new logo. But I've come to terms why now at least. They say the pepsi logo is a smile, when in fact it is a glimpse of the future. Take a look

Kuler

So in the spirit of doing something different, I came across a new way to re-invent the wheel. So to speak. Actually what I came across is merely a color picker, but some of the things you are able to do with it are pretty awesome. It's called Adobe's Kuler

What's awesome about it is how easy it is to pick out new color schemes, or take a reference photo to pull out the colors used in it to pick a color palette. Here's also a nice website to show you how to use some of the functions of the kuler
